The unreleased joints just keep on piling and piling up. With artists far and wide flinging out unreleased tracks to the masses, Killer Mike‘s & EI-P‘s (collectively known as Run The Jewels) decision to toe the line and do the same comes as no surprise. The production in Pew Pew Pew is unquestionably EI-P-like. It’s dynamic, spacey and wild. Pew Pew Pew fits right in with all the other songs in Run The Jewels (the LP not the group) in that regard at least. Killer Mike shines through with his raps, as you’d expect. If you’re feeling nostalgic, then you’ll be glad to know that the last minute or so of the song is dominated by some truly insane scratching courtesy of DJ QBert. Since Pew Pew Pew‘s release is 6 months too tardy it might not benefit from the hoopla that surrounded the release of Run The Jewels back during the summer. However, with it’s fantastic production and raps it might just prove to be the sleeper hit this holiday season.
Run The Jewels was met with critical acclaim. There’s also reason to believe that we’ll see more frequent collaborations from the two MCs. The future looks bright!. For more Run The Jewels info, which I’m sure there will be a lot of next year, keep on checking Musiq Expo!
